VI - The wedding begins
Outside the bride's house, where the guests gather at the end of the
working day, Vanessa's godmother shows off the clean handkerchief in a basket.
Her godfather tells a story about a Gypsy who went in search of gold to help
his family, but failed to find it.
When his daughter married he realised, belatedly, that her honour and happiness
were worth more than all the gold he could have found.
As he finished his anecdote the guests applauded enthusiastically.
The married women from the bride's and groom's families and friends go inside
the bride's home with the ajuntadora, who will test the bride's virginity.
Single women, children and men wait outside until after the ritual is over.
