Retrato de Alicia, 1982

This is one of my favourite portraits. I had asked Jacobo Pérez-Enciso, one of our great painters and graphic designers, to paint me a background with the irony of the old, fashionable, pictorial sitting room backgrounds. The background was there for some time and I didn't know quite what to do with it. One day Alicia came to the studio to put together an album for working as a model, I saw her swimsuit and everything went from there. Some time later, Borja Casani, director of the Spanish magazine La Luna, asked me for some ideas for the front cover of the magazine and I thought that this photo could work. I think that's how it was. One day, having seen the front cover, Alicia came to the studio with Kevin Ayers of Soft Machine and we had a coffee. My rocker friends were just slightly jealous.
